The Alexandria Brief sits down with Kirk McPike, candidate for House District 5 in the Virginia House of Delegates, ahead of Tuesday’s firehouse primary.
McPike has served on Alexandria City Council since 2021 and spent 13 years as chief of staff to Congressman Mark Takano. He discusses why he’s running, how he’d hit the ground running mid-session, and his priorities on housing, education, criminal justice, labor and protecting Alexandrians from the Trump administration.
The firehouse primary is Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Beatley Library and Charles Houston Recreation Center. The winner will face Republican Mason Butler in the Feb. 10 special election.
