ACPS announces 2-hour delay Friday as snow moves in overnight
About an inch expected; NWS warns of "treacherous travel" during morning commute
Alexandria City Public Schools will open two hours late on Friday as the season’s first snow moves into the region overnight.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Alexandria from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, warning that “slick and icy roads and sidewalks” will impact the morning commute.
The forecast
Snow begins after 4 a.m. and continues through mid-morning, tapering off before noon. Total accumulation near 1 inch. With temperatures in the 20s overnight and through the morning, snow will stick to all untreated surfaces. A light freezing drizzle is possible on Friday afternoon as temperatures climb to the mid-30s.
The NWS warning is blunt: “Treacherous travel for the Friday morning commute.”
