ACPS announces another two-hour delay Wednesday
Second straight day of delayed opening; city hauling 600 loads of snow per day
Alexandria City Public Schools will open with a two-hour delay again on Wednesday due to the continued impact of the ice storm, Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt announced Tuesday afternoon.
Students returned to school buildings Tuesday for the first time since Jan. 22—11 days without in-person learning—also on a two-hour delay.
Students in grades PreK–12 should report two hours later than their regular time. Bus riders should be at their stops two hours later than their scheduled pickup.
Morning Early Childhood Special Education programs are canceled Wednesday. Afternoon ECSE will operate on a normal schedule. The Virginia Preschool Initiative will follow the two-hour delay.
The city’s snow response entered its ninth day Tuesday, with crews hauling about 600 truckloads of snow per day, Mayor Alyia Gaskins said. Sidewalks remain a key challenge—the city resumed enforcement Tuesday but said it is starting with warnings and offering help, not fines.
“We cannot have students, parents, or anyone else in the streets,” Gaskins said. “It requires all of us working together to keep moving forward.”
If city plows pushed snow onto your sidewalk or intersection, submit a 311 request and crews will clear it.
