ACPS announces two-hour delay Monday; full closure still possible
District monitoring conditions overnight as 2 to 4 inches of snow expected
Alexandria City Public Schools will open two hours late Monday, February 23, Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt announced Sunday, as a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect this evening with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected overnight.
The district said it will continue monitoring conditions and could move to a full closure. “If weather conditions necessitate a school closure, we will share that information promptly,” Kay-Wyatt wrote in a message to families and staff.
Students in grades PreK-12 should arrive two hours later than their normal start time. Bus riders should report to stops two hours later than their regularly scheduled pickup time. The Virginia Preschool Initiative will follow the same delayed schedule. Morning Early Childhood Special Education programs are canceled; afternoon ECSE will operate on its regular schedule.
Essential personnel are expected to report at their normal time if conditions allow. All other staff should arrive two hours late.
The National Weather Service has snow possibly mixed with rain transitioning to all snow after midnight, with a low around 32 and wind gusts up to 37 mph. The Monday morning commute is expected to be directly impacted.
Families should monitor the ACPS website for updates.
