Aerospace Medical Association relocates headquarters from Alexandria to Florida
Aviation medicine group sells South Henry Street building after 37 years
The Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA) announced Thursday it has completed its relocation from 320 South Henry Street in Alexandria to North Palm Beach, Florida.
City real estate records show that AsMA sold the property on October 29 for $1.6 million to Alfred Street Baptist Church. The organization purchased the 6,037-square-foot office condominium in 1988 for $995,000.
“After many years in Alexandria, Virginia, we have officially transitioned to our new Headquarters in North Palm Beach, Florida,” the organization stated on social media. “This move marks an important milestone in AsMA’s history and reflects our continued commitment to advancing the mission and serving our members worldwide.”
Founded in 1929 by Dr. Louis H. Bauer, the first medical director of what later became the FAA, AsMA is the largest professional membership organization in aerospace medicine and human performance. It has grown from 29 founding members to more than 2,200 members from over 70 countries.
The organization serves as a forum for aerospace medicine specialists, flight nurses, physiologists, psychologists, and researchers to collaborate on aviation safety issues. Approximately 30% of its membership is based outside the United States. According to its LinkedIn profile, AsMA employs between two and 10 staff members.
AsMA publishes the monthly journal Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance and provides expertise to federal and international agencies on aviation medical standards and flight safety issues.
The organization’s website still listed the Alexandria address as of Thursday afternoon. AsMA did not provide details about its new Florida location or how the move affects its workforce.
