Alexandria bars, restaurants shake up specials for DC Cocktail Week
Jula's on the Potomac, Matt & Tony's and Milk & Honey offer holiday-themed drinks and bites through Dec. 7
Several Alexandria establishments are participating in DC Cocktail Week, a seven-day celebration of craft cocktails and culinary pairings running Monday through Sunday.
The annual event, produced by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, features more than 100 venues across the region offering specialty drinks and food pairings.
Jula’s on the Potomac, at 44 Canal Center Plaza, is hosting a holiday-themed social hour in its bar and lounge or on the heated waterfront terrace from 3 to 6 p.m. daily through Dec. 7. The waterfront restaurant is offering a $25 cocktail-and-bite pairing featuring a Mistletoe Margarita — made with Espolòn Blanco tequila, Cointreau, cranberry, raspberry purée, lime and agave — alongside citrus salt roasted shrimp with Thai coconut curry sauce and charred shishito peppers.
Additional holiday cocktails are available for $2 off during the social hour, including the Campfire Cocoa with High West whiskey and a torched amaro marshmallow, the Blitzen Spritzen with Empress 1908 gin and mulled wine vermouth, and an alcohol-free Snow Globe Spritz. Reservations are available through OpenTable or at julasotp.com.
Matt & Tony’s, at 1501 Mount Vernon Ave., presents “The History of the Cocktail: A Spirited Progression” on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. The all-day breakfast and American fare restaurant guides guests through four defining eras with cocktail-and-food pairings: an 1800s Philadelphia Fish House Punch with rum, cognac and peach brandy paired with rabbit rillette; a golden age Martinez with gin and sweet vermouth alongside oysters Rockefeller; a 1960s-era Appletini with Salisbury steak; and a modern mezcal Paloma with cumin lamb tostada. Guests should make a dinner reservation and note that they are attending the Cocktail Week tasting.
Milk & Honey, at 801 King Street, is offering a $20 cocktail-and-bite pairing at the New Orleans-themed Southern brunch spot. Cocktail options include a Santa Baby Spritz with Grey Goose L’orange and sparkling wine, a Chocolate Espresso Martini, and a White Christmas Margarita with Patrón Silver tequila and cream of coconut. Bites include breaded deviled eggs with bacon and scallions, cornmeal-crusted fried green tomatoes, and butter-glazed biscuits.
