Alexandria Democratic Committee elects new leadership at reorganization meeting
Jon DeNunzio succeeds Sandy Marks as chair of local party organization
The Alexandria Democratic Committee elected a new slate of officers Monday night during a reorganization meeting at Alexandria City High School’s King Street campus, the committee announced on Facebook.
Jon DeNunzio was elected chair of the committee, succeeding outgoing chair Sandy Marks.
The committee describes itself as a community-driven political organization of grassroots supporters that delivers the progressive vote for Alexandria and Northern Virginia. It operates under the authority of the Democratic Party of the United States and the Democratic Party of Virginia.
Committee members were required to renew their membership by Dec. 12 to be eligible to vote and run in the election. Candidate statements were also due by that date.
Marks was honored at a farewell gathering in December at Josephine in Old Town, according to an earlier Facebook post.
Eva Hartman will serve as vice chair for finance and administration, while Nigel Mease was elected secretary and Chalin Smith will serve as treasurer.
The committee also filled several vice chair positions overseeing precinct operations across the city. Blake Ballard will lead operations in the east, while a team of Erin Lee and Laura Plaia will oversee the central district. Natalie Rogers and Dustin Narcisse will share responsibilities for the west.
Other officers elected include Joelle Jordan as vice chair for communications, Jacki Garry as vice chair for data and membership, and Eileen Cassidy Rivera as vice chair for community outreach.
John Connor was named vice chair for resolutions, David Paladin-Fernandez will lead volunteer coordination and Steve Verdier will oversee the Democrats to Go program. Sharon Widmayer was elected vice chair for dining for delegates.
David Lord and Greg Parks were elected to jointly lead the Leadership Circle as co-chairs. Lord will also serve as a parliamentarian. Alex Perez-Reyes serves as Young Democrats president.
The committee said it would announce newly elected precinct captains Tuesday.
