Alexandria program recognizes residents for sustainable choices at home
Homeowners, renters and condo owners can earn yard signs, window clings through simple online application
Alexandria residents can now earn recognition for making eco-friendly choices at home through the city’s updated Eco-City Homes Recognition Program.
The program, open to homeowners, condo owners, and renters, celebrates sustainable practices ranging from LED lightbulbs to energy-efficient appliances. Participants who earn recognition receive yard signs or window clings to display their Eco-City Home designation.
City officials recently revamped the program based on community feedback. Participants can now earn points for each sustainable action they take.
Homeowners can achieve standard recognition at 20 points, silver at 60 points and gold at 90 points. Condo owners can reach standard at 20 points, silver at 40 points and gold at 75 points. Renters can earn standard recognition at 10 points and silver at 20 points.
Applying is simple: residents complete a short online checklist tailored to their housing situation, with separate versions available for homeowners, condo owners and renters. The city accepts applications on a rolling basis.
