Alexandria seeks applicants to fill roughly 75 vacancies across 33 boards and commissions
Applications are due by the end of the month; council will act on the appointments March 10

Alexandria City Council is seeking applicants to fill roughly 75 vacancies across 33 boards, commissions, and committees ahead of its March 10 meeting.
Applications must be submitted electronically at boards.alexandriava.gov/application. The city’s website lists a deadline of 5 p.m. Feb. 27, though a subsequent email notification from the city listed the deadline as Feb. 28. Applicants may apply to only one committee at a time, and duplicate applications will not be considered.
Among the bodies with the most openings are the Historic Alexandria Resources Commission, which has seven vacancies; the Commission on Employment, with six; and the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee, Citizen Corps Council, George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee, Local Emergency Planning Committee, and Potomac Yard Design Advisory Committee, each with four.
The Planning Commission, which advises council on land use and development matters, has one vacancy for a citizen member following a resignation. The Board of Architectural Review has two openings: one for a property owner in the Parker-Gray District whose term is expiring, and one citizen member seat left open by a resignation.
The Alexandria Transportation Commission is seeking to fill two seats — one on the Alexandria Transit Company Board of Directors and one on the Planning Commission — both vacated by resignations. The Alexandria Housing Affordability Advisory Committee has one opening for a commissioner from the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority board, following a resignation.
Other vacancies span a range of civic bodies, from the Commission on Aging, which is seeking two citizen members age 60 or older, to the Beautification Commission, which needs a member with expertise in landscape architecture or design.

Applicants must reside in the city unless the council grants a residency waiver.
