Alexandria sheriff's office opens applications for spring community academy
Free program offers hands-on look at jail operations, courthouse tours during Saturday sessions in March
Applications are now open for the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office Spring 2026 Community Academy, a free four-week program offering residents an inside look at local law enforcement operations.
The academy will meet on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 7, 14, 21, and 28 at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center, 2003 Mill Road.
Participants will explore jail operations, judicial and special operations, civil process, warrant service, and inmate services and programs through presentations and interactive activities. The program includes tours of the Adult Detention Center and the Alexandria Courthouse.
Past academy sessions have featured hands-on activities including pepperball gun training, operating Project Lifesaver tracking devices, and taking a polygraph examination.
The academy is open to anyone 21 or older who lives or works in Alexandria. Criminal history checks will be conducted on all applicants. The program is free.
