Alexandria store sells $50,000 Powerball ticket as jackpot climbs to $1.5 billion
Tiger Market and Bakery on Mount Vernon Avenue among five Virginia retailers to sell second-tier winners
A lottery ticket sold at a Mount Vernon Avenue convenience store won $50,000 in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, the Virginia Lottery announced Thursday.
The winning ticket was purchased at Tiger Market and Bakery, 3903 Mt. Vernon Ave., one of five $50,000 winners sold statewide. The ticket matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball.
No ticket in Virginia or elsewhere matched all six numbers, pushing Saturday’s jackpot to an estimated $1.5 billion.
More than 87,000 tickets purchased in Virginia won prizes in the Dec. 17 drawing.
The other $50,000 winners were sold at retailers in Exmore, Fairfax, Glen Allen and Woodbridge.
Virginia Lottery profits support K-12 public education. The lottery contributed more than $901 million to schools in fiscal year 2025, representing about 10 percent of the state’s K-12 budget.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 25.
Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Players must be at least 18 years old.
