Alexandria to host community meeting on I-395 ramp project tied to Inova hospital development
Nearly $12 million in improvements to the Duke Street interchange will support emergency access to the planned hospital complex at the former Landmark Mall site
The City of Alexandria will host a pre-construction community meeting next month to discuss a nearly $12 million overhaul of the ramp connecting northbound I-395 to eastbound Duke Street, part of a broader infrastructure push to support the planned Inova Hospital campus at the former Landmark Mall site.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library Multipurpose Room, 5005 Duke St. Virtual attendance is available via Zoom, though advance registration is required.
The ramp and roadway interchange improvements are designed to provide direct emergency vehicle access to the new Inova Hospital complex, according to the city’s Department of Transportation & Environmental Services. City officials also cite anticipated increases in vehicular traffic associated with the new development as a driver of the project.
The project, with a budget of $11.75 million, has been in development since January 2022 and entered the construction phase last February. The city expects construction to continue through January 2028.
City staff will present the project scope, construction timeline and potential travel impacts at the March 5 meeting. Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns.
Residents who wish to attend virtually can register at zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-908oXTJR8ulrReXWx3OhA to receive a meeting link and passcode. Additional project information is available on the city’s project webpage.
