Board of Architectural Review to meet twice this month at new location
Demolition request at 415 North Alfred St. among items on Jan. 21 preliminary docket
Alexandria’s Board of Architectural Review will hold two public hearings this month, both at the city’s temporary meeting space at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center while City Hall undergoes renovations.
The board meets on Wednesday, January 7, at 7 p.m. to consider a concept review for a city project at 1609 Cameron St.

A preliminary docket released Friday for the Jan. 21 meeting includes several notable requests in the Parker-Gray and Old and Historic Alexandria districts.

Among the items: a request for complete demolition at 415 North Alfred St. from PT Blooms, represented by attorney Kenneth W. Wire. A separate concept review application for the same address is also on the docket.
The seven-member board oversees both the Parker-Gray and Old and Historic Alexandria districts, as well as designated 100-year-old buildings. The BAR approves certificates of appropriateness for new construction and exterior alterations on structures visible from public ways. The board must also approve permits to demolish for any proposed demolition of more than 25 square feet of material, regardless of visibility.
Nastaran Zandian serves as chair, with Theresa Del Ninno as vice chair. Other members include Robert “Bud” Adams, James Spencer, Margaret Miller, Frances Pratt, and Andrew Scott.
