Indian eatery planned for Eisenhower, holiday pop-up opens on waterfront
A churro shop and one of D.C.’s oldest Italian restaurants are among the businesses planning to open in Old Town, while a new Indian eatery is headed to the Eisenhower Avenue corridor.
Here’s the latest in Alexandria business news.
Churro shop headed to King Street
Churrok’s, a dessert shop specializing in culinary churros, has filed paperwork to open at 1022 King St., the former home of the now-closed Alexandria Cupcake.
The application, which goes before the Board of Architectural Review on Dec. 17, requests permission to make three ventilation openings in the rear of the building.
This will be the first Churrok’s in the D.C. area, according to the business’s Instagram page. The business is owned by Veronica Castaneda Banuelos, according to city records.
D.C. Italian institution expanding to Old Town
Floriana, one of the oldest Italian restaurants in Washington, D.C., is expanding to Alexandria. The Northern Italian eatery will open at 277 S. Washington St. in the former Virginia’s Darling space, the Washington Business Journal reported.
The restaurant could open as early as June, with seating for up to 160 guests and a menu spanning breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Indian eatery coming to Eisenhower
The Bombay Canteen has announced plans to open at 2010 Eisenhower Ave. The restaurant will bring flavors inspired by Indian street food and home cooking to the area.
“From the sizzling sounds of a tawa to the comforting aroma of slow-cooked curries, our menu pays homage to the soulful street corners and family kitchens of Bombay,” the restaurant said on its website.
Holiday pop-up opens on waterfront
Barca Wine Bar & Pier has launched its Barca Wonderland holiday pop-up at 2 Pioneer Mill Way on the Alexandria waterfront, Patch reported.
The experience, running through Jan. 17, features themed cocktails served in festive glassware and a pier bar decked out in lights and Christmas decorations.
Featured drinks include the Sleigh Bells, a bourbon-based cocktail with maple syrup, hot black tea, and bitters, garnished with toasted marshmallows and served in a Santa mug. Other offerings include the Mistletoe Mulled Wine, Gingerbread Toddy, and an Apple Cider Old Fashioned served in a Christmas tree cup.
Del Ray flea market expands to new location
The Del Ray Vintage & Flea Market is expanding to a new location at Evening Star Cafe and Hi/Fi Tex-Mex BBQ at 2000 Mt. Vernon Ave., according to an Instagram post.
The market will set up on the Evening Star Cafe’s front porch outdoor patio and Hi/Fi’s outdoor back patio and cabanas on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The expansion means more space for vintage and handmade goods from local makers and vendors.
