City Manager to present FY 2027 budget next week
Public hearings, work sessions run through April; adoption set for April 29
City Manager James Parajon will present his proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget to City Council next Tuesday, Feb. 24, kicking off a two-month process of public hearings and work sessions before the spending plan is adopted in late April.
The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center during the council’s legislative meeting. Parajon will also present the budget to the community on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Charles Houston Recreation Center.
Both presentations will be streamed online at alexandriava.gov/Dockets.
The budget comes as Alexandria faces a mixed economic picture. Office vacancy has fallen to 18.9 percent — bucking regional trends — but unemployment has risen to 3.8 percent amid federal job cuts, according to a report presented to council earlier this month. Council members have raised concerns about retail gaps in the West End and the need to retain existing businesses.
