Democrats set Feb. 21 firehouse primary for Council seat
Four candidates already in race; filing deadline is Feb. 6
The Alexandria Democratic Committee will hold a firehouse primary on Saturday, Feb. 21, to select a nominee for the City Council seat being vacated by Councilman Kirk McPike, according to the committee’s website.
Voting will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at two locations:
Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library, 5005 Duke St.
Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center, 25 W. Reed Ave.
Candidates must file a Declaration of Candidacy form and a $750 filing fee on Tuesday, Feb. 6, between 4 and 7 p.m. at the Alexandria Democratic Committee office at 2101A Mount Vernon Ave.
Four candidates have already announced bids: former ADC chair Sandy Marks, Tim Laderach, Roberto Gomez, and Cesar Madison Tapia.
The Alexandria Republican City Committee has not announced details of its nominating process.
McPike announced his resignation Tuesday night, effective Feb. 9 — one day before the special election in which he faces Republican Mason Butler for House District 5. Early voting began Saturday.
