Market Square Garage to close Feb. 9 as City Hall renovation begins
Fencing going up this month; free parking available for farmers market visitors
The Market Square Garage will close to the public next Monday as the city moves into the construction phase of the City Hall and Market Square renovation project.
The closure takes effect Feb. 9. Monthly parking pass holders should have already received information about alternative locations. Those with questions can contact USP Parking at benhar@uspparking.com.
Farmers market shoppers will have free parking during market hours at the Courthouse Square Garage at 111 S. Pitt St. and the Tavern Square Garage at 418 Cameron St. on Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market itself will temporarily relocate to the 100 block of North Royal Street and the Tavern Square courtyard, with an exact date still to be announced.
The Courthouse Square Garage, one block from City Hall, offers $1 hourly parking on weeknights after 5 p.m. and all day on weekends, with a maximum of $5 per day. The city also encourages visitors to take Metro to the King Street-Old Town station and ride the free King Street Trolley or free DASH bus.

Fencing will go up this month around City Hall and Market Square. Sidewalks and street parking will close along North Royal, North Fairfax and Cameron streets, though part of the King Street sidewalk will remain open.
The bus and trolley stop at North Fairfax and King streets will move this spring to 302 King St. and remain there through early 2028.
City departments have been relocating since July. The mayor’s office, city council, city manager, city clerk and planning and zoning are moving to Tavern Square at 421 King St. Code administration and council chambers will operate from the Del Pepper Community Resource Center at 4850 Mark Center Dr.
Residents who previously voted at City Hall should note their new polling location is Lyles Crouch Traditional Academy at 530 S. Saint Asaph St.

Appreciate the clear breakdown of alternative parking and relocated services. The free farmerr market parking at Courthouse Square is a nice touch. Most people probably dont realize how much coordination goes into keeping a city running during major infrastructure work like this.
