Maryland man charged with threatening two Alexandria judges
Suspect arrested in Cumberland; awaits extradition on seven felony counts
A Cumberland, Maryland, man faces multiple felony charges after authorities say he made violent threats against two judges in Alexandria.
Lindolfo Pedraza, 53, was arrested Wednesday at his home by Cumberland police on warrants obtained by the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with two counts each of threats of death or bodily injury, obstruction of justice, and harassment by computer, as well as one count of stalking.
Pedraza is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to Alexandria.
The Sheriff’s Office said it launched an investigation last week after judicial officers reported receiving threatening communications. Officials did not disclose the identities of the judges or the specific nature of the threats.
“In Alexandria, threats to judges or other judicial officers may be rare but are always taken very seriously,” Sheriff Sean Casey said in a statement. “In this case, the threats of violence required immediate action.”
Casey credited Investigator Cañas, the office’s Investigations, Professionalism & Oversight team, the Alexandria Police Department, and the Cumberland Police Department for their work in the case.
Pedraza could not immediately be reached for comment, and court records do not yet indicate whether he has retained an attorney.
The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office provided a booking photo of Pedraza. In keeping with The Alexandria Brief’s policy, we have chosen not to publish it.
Rationale: Booking photos are taken at the time of arrest, before any determination of guilt. Publishing them can create a presumption of guilt in readers’ minds and cause lasting reputational harm even if charges are later dropped or the defendant is acquitted. Unless there is a compelling public safety reason, such as an at-large suspect, our practice is to avoid using booking photos in routine crime coverage.
