More than 2,300 Alexandrians have voted early in special election
More than 2,300 Alexandria voters have cast ballots in the Feb. 10 special election, according to city data through Thursday.
As of Feb. 5, 876 voters had cast ballots in person during early voting, and 1,449 had returned mail-in ballots. Another 7,962 mail-in ballots are still outstanding. Twenty-two ballots need to be cured.
For comparison, 4,647 voters cast ballots in the Jan. 13 SD39 firehouse primary that selected Bennett-Parker as the Democratic nominee, and 2,115 voted in the Jan. 20 HD5 firehouse primary won by McPike — though firehouse primaries have limited hours and locations and are open only to party members.
All Alexandria voters will cast ballots in the Senate District 39 race, which has about 151,000 registered voters across Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax. Voters in House District 5, which has 71,996 registered voters in Alexandria, will also have a race on their ballot.
