Mystic Bar & Grill permanently closing on Sunday
Location at 220 North Lee St. has seen three restaurants close since 2016
Mystic Bar & Grill, a barbecue restaurant in Old Town, will close Sunday after less than two years in business.
Owners Matt and Ralph Davis announced the closure Nov. 21 on social media, citing months of unsustainable challenges.
“Since opening almost two years ago, we’ve faced challenges, and unfortunately the last few months have become unsustainable,” they wrote.
The restaurant at 220 North Lee St. opened in April 2023. The Davis family has operated restaurants in and around Old Town for nearly 50 years.
The location has seen turnover in recent years. Mystic replaced Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster Barbeque, which closed on Christmas Eve 2023 after operating at the site since 2016. Before that, the space housed Overwood, a popular American restaurant.
Mystic featured Texas-style smoked brisket, baby back ribs and Carolina pulled pork prepared in a smoker from barbecue champion Myron Mixon. The menu also included Southern seafood dishes such as spicy she-crab soup, shrimp and grits, and a jumbo lump crab cake sandwich.
In their announcement, the owners thanked friends, family, staff and customers.
“We’ve truly enjoyed our time here, being part of the neighborhood, seeing old friends, and making new ones,” they wrote.
