One in critical condition after Alexandria apartment fire
Firefighters found resident in cardiac arrest on sixth floor of Fillmore Avenue building
Fire crews rescued an unconscious adult from a burning sixth-floor apartment Friday and performed life-saving measures before transporting the person to a hospital, where the individual was listed in critical condition, authorities said.
Firefighters responding to 5140 Fillmore Ave. forced entry into the apartment and found the occupant in cardiac arrest, according to a fire department news release.
The fire was small and contained to the single unit, officials said. No extension to neighboring apartments was reported.
Police closed Fillmore Avenue between Seminary Road and Beauregard Street while emergency personnel worked the scene. The road reopened shortly after 3:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
