Panel to explore aging challenges facing Alexandria residents
Monday event will address caregiving, legal planning and fraud prevention for seniors
Agenda Alexandria will host a panel discussion Monday evening on the challenges of aging in the city, bringing together experts in senior services, caregiving, estate planning and fraud prevention.
The program, titled “We All Get Old: Let’s Get Ready,” will examine caregiving planning, legal planning and digital safety issues facing older residents and their families.
“The goal isn’t to alarm but to empower, offering families clear guidance long before life’s curveballs arrive,” according to a press release from the organization.
Former Agenda Alexandria Chair Rod Kuckro will moderate the 90-minute discussion featuring four panelists: Mary Lee Anderson, executive director of Senior Services of Alexandria; Heidi Travis, certified care manager and executive director of ElderTree Care Management; Chris Leighton, an estate planning attorney; and Larry Lipman, a speaker with AARP Virginia Speakers Bureau who focuses on technology scams targeting seniors.
The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office promoted the event on social media, calling it “an excellent opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and begin planning” and highlighting the discussion of fraud schemes directed at seniors.
The program will be held at 7 p.m. in the Forum room at Minnie Howard Campus, 3775 W. Braddock Road. A reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for non-members and free for members of Agenda Alexandria.
The discussion will be videotaped and posted to the organization’s website at www.AgendaAlexandria.org.
Agenda Alexandria is a non-partisan nonprofit that has hosted discussions on local issues for more than 20 years. The organization hosts eight programs annually on topics ranging from transportation and education to public safety and the environment.
