Wells Fargo announces $500,000 grant to Alexandria nonprofit at N. Washington Street branch reopening
The grant will support the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development's financial literacy programs at HBCUs and communities worldwide
Wells Fargo celebrated the grand reopening of its branch at 330 N. Washington Street on Feb. 12, announcing a $500,000 grant to an Alexandria-based nonprofit that works to expand financial literacy across the country and around the world.
The grant, from Wells Fargo and the Wells Fargo Foundation, will support the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development, headquartered at 1800 Diagonal Road. The organization has provided financial education to more than 700,000 Americans, including 600,000 college students, and is currently active at 46 historically Black colleges and universities.

Councilwoman Jacinte Greene, Councilman Canek Aguirre, community members, Wells Fargo leaders, and SFEPD representatives attended the event.

The reopening is part of Wells Fargo’s District-by-District Branch Transformation program, a multi-year initiative to modernize more than 4,000 branches across the bank’s footprint. The N. Washington St. location is the second of 130 branches the bank is refurbishing in the Washington, D.C., area.
“Branches are a vital part of how we serve our customers, working hand-in-hand with our mobile app, online banking, and ATMs,” said Sophia Dadas, head of branch strategy and market growth at Wells Fargo. “Our refreshed branches are intentionally designed to blend digital convenience with human connection.”
Wells Fargo operates more than 170 branches in Virginia and more than two dozen in the District of Columbia.
