Wonder food hall to open Potomac Yard location Jan. 9
The $7 billion startup from Jet.com founder Marc Lore will bring its fourth Virginia location to Richmond Highway
Wonder, the multi-restaurant food hall concept, will celebrate the grand opening of its Potomac Yard location on Friday, Jan. 9, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and giveaways.
The celebration at 3615 Richmond Highway begins at 2 p.m. The first 100 guests to arrive at 5 p.m. will receive an exclusive Wonder gift. The event is free and open to the public.
The Potomac Yard location will be Wonder’s fourth in Virginia, joining existing spots in Rosslyn, Franconia and Reston. The company currently operates more than 90 locations across 10 states and Washington, D.C., with more than 30 additional openings planned by spring 2026, including sites in Annapolis, Frederick and Friendship Heights.
Wonder was founded in 2018 by Marc Lore, the serial entrepreneur who previously sold Jet.com to Walmart for $3.3 billion and Diapers.com to Amazon for $550 million. The company raised $600 million in May, bringing its valuation to over $7 billion, with backing from investors including Google Ventures and Amex Ventures, according to Restaurant Technology News.
Wonder has grown rapidly, expanding from 11 locations in early 2024 to more than 90 by late 2025, opening new sites at a rate of about one per week. The company also owns Grubhub, which it acquired in 2024, and Blue Apron, Restaurant Dive reported.
Wonder’s concept allows customers to order from more than two dozen restaurant brands in a single transaction for dine-in, takeout or delivery. Unlike traditional food halls with independent vendors, Wonder operates fully integrated kitchens where all food is prepared in-house, according to Billy Penn. Most food is prepped at central commissary kitchens before being shipped to individual locations, where employees use rapid-cook ovens to finish dishes, PhillyVoice reported.
The Potomac Yard menu will feature Bobby Flay Steak, Jota by José Andrés and Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson, as well as Di Fara Pizza, the famed Brooklyn pizzeria that has become a permanent fixture on “best pizza” lists. Other offerings include Maydan, the acclaimed D.C. Middle Eastern restaurant; SriPraPhai, one of the country’s top Thai restaurants for more than 30 years; and Tejas Barbecue, considered one of Texas’ best.
The company says it is committed to responsible food sourcing, including using seasonal and organic ingredients when possible and sourcing meat and poultry raised without added antibiotics or hormones.
Wonder offers free delivery in 30 minutes or less, along with takeout and dine-in options.
