About the candidate
McPike, an Alexandria City Councilman, launched his campaign Wednesday with an endorsement from Rep. Don Beyer. On Friday, he announced additional backing from Dels. Paul Krizek and Laura Jane Cohen, City Councilman Abdel-Rahman Elnoubi, former council members Del Pepper and Tim Lovain, Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter, Clerk of the Circuit Court Greg Parks, and School Board members Kelly Carmichael Booz and Ryan Reyna.
He faces former School Board member Eileen Cassidy Rivera in Tuesday’s firehouse primary. Voting runs from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Beatley Library and Charles Houston Recreation Center.
I’ve invited Rivera to join us for a separate conversation and are working out the details. I will announce details once confirmed. I’ll also extend an invite to any other candidate who declares during the filing deadline on Sunday.
The winner may face a Republican nominee in the Feb. 10 special election.
