An Alexandria man has been charged in a stabbing early Saturday that police say followed a hit-and-run crash on Mount Vernon Avenue, leaving a man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Officers responded about 12:40 a.m. Saturday to the 800 block of West Glebe Road for a reported stabbing and found an adult man with an apparent stab wound, the Alexandria Police Department said. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses gave officers a description of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle, including the license plate number.
A preliminary investigation indicates the assault was preceded by a hit-and-run crash earlier on Mount Vernon Avenue, police said. A subsequent encounter between the people involved, on West Glebe Road, ended in the stabbing.
Officers later spotted the suspect's vehicle and conducted a traffic stop as it traveled through the city, police said. The driver, identified as Edvin Lopez Garin, 43, of Alexandria, was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding and felony hit and run.
The 800 block of West Glebe Road sits just south of South Glebe Road, near the Beverley Hills neighborhood.
