ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Thai Peppers, a fixture on Mount Vernon Avenue since 1998, will serve its last meal at its Del Ray location on June 15, the family announced on Instagram Monday.
The restaurant at 2018 Mount Vernon Ave. has been a neighborhood institution for nearly three decades — a place the family described as the setting for "family dinners, first dates, celebrations, comfort meals, and memories shared with generations of our community."
The closing comes as the founding generation of the family-owned restaurant has decided to retire. "The 'elders' of our family has decided it's finally time to retire, to hopefully relax on a beach in Phuket sipping singhas and Mai Tais," the family wrote in the announcement.
The Del Ray location's closure does not mark the end of Thai Peppers. The family said the restaurant's Bristow and Haymarket locations will remain open under the second and third generations of the family. "The baton has proudly been passed down," the family wrote. "Same family. Familiar recipes. Always love poured into every dish."
Thai Peppers is family-owned and has built its reputation on fresh, made-to-order authentic Thai cuisine with no added MSG, offering dishes that can be customized from no spice to Thai hot.
"To every customer who supported us over the years, thank you," the family wrote. "Del Ray has been a huge part of our family's legacy and without you there wouldn't be Thai Peppers."
The Del Ray location is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. The restaurant is closed Mondays. The final day of service is Sunday, June 15.
For those who want to continue visiting Thai Peppers after June 15, the Bristow location is at 10406 Bristow Center Drive in the Bristow Shopping Center, and the Haymarket location is at 5541 Merchants View Square in the Dominion Valley Shopping Center. More information at thaipeppersva.com.
