ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Three street segments that have been on Alexandria's repaving schedule since mid-May are set for work again the week of June 1, joined by a newly added stretch of Holland Lane, the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services said.

East Abingdon Drive and West Abingdon Drive (both from Washington Street to their ends) and Madison Street (from North Columbus Street to Washington Street) all appeared on the city's May 11–15 schedule and are listed again this week. West Abingdon Drive has carried over since at least the April 27–May 1 list. The new addition is Holland Lane, from Duke Street to Eisenhower Avenue.

The repaving list is subject to change, and the city cites weather, equipment, utility coordination and other projects among the factors that can delay work.

The department, which maintains more than 561 lane miles of road along with sidewalks and alleys, notifies affected residents and businesses in advance, typically through project signs or letters. Temporary "No Parking" signs are posted before work begins, and the city warns that vehicles left in active work zones will be towed; the paving program coordinates with parking enforcement and tracks posted signs electronically.

Each year the city resurfaces about 50 of its lane miles, prioritizing the streets in the worst condition based on a pavement-rating system.
