ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria City Public Schools is asking families of new students to complete registration before the first day of school on August 24 — and is hosting events this summer to help them do it.
ACPS will hold a New Student Registration event this Sunday, July 27, from 2–6 p.m. at the ACPS Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Center, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Door 12, 6th Floor. Registration office hours will also be available every Monday through August 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the same location.
More than 1,600 new student registration applications have already been submitted for the 2026–27 school year, with more than 900 families either fully registered or actively completing enrollment. That represents a 15.5% increase in early registrations compared to the same period last year.
Kindergarten accounts for more than 90% of all new student registrations. ACPS says delays in registration create challenges for classroom planning, teacher hiring, and class size management — and can leave students and families scrambling on the first day.
"Starting school is a big milestone, especially for our youngest learners and their families," said ACPS Chief of Staff Dr. Grace Taylor. "When families register early, it gives us the opportunity to connect with them sooner, answer questions and make sure they feel welcomed and informed every step of the way."
Multilingual support is available in the division's top five languages. English learner students in grades 1–12 should visit the Central Office for registration support.
Families can confirm age requirements, find required documents, and locate their school zone at acps.k12.va.us/register.
