An Alexandria man is facing multiple charges after Arlington County police say he attacked two officers in the Clarendon neighborhood in the early morning hours of Friday, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Quinton Berry, 26, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with assault on police (×2), obstruction of justice (×2), attempt to disarm an officer and vehicle tampering. He is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility. Berry has not been convicted of any crime and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

According to police, two officers were seated in their marked patrol vehicle, stopped at the traffic light on Wilson Boulevard at North Irving Street, when a man described as bloody and agitated approached the car and opened the driver's side door. Police say the suspect began assaulting the officer before fleeing on foot.

The officer in the passenger seat exited the vehicle and pursued the suspect, according to police. In the area of North Irving Street and 12th Street North, authorities say the suspect charged at the pursuing officer, knocking him to the ground. A struggle ensued, during which the suspect allegedly attempted to take control of the officer's taser. Additional officers arrived and took the suspect into custody.

Both officers sustained minor injuries and were assessed by medics on scene, police said.
