Alexandria names longtime technology chief Vanetta Pledger deputy city manager

Pledger, the city's chief information officer for the past decade, succeeds Jane Christenson, who was hired a year ago after a national search. Pledger has held the role on an interim basis.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Vanetta Pledger, Alexandria's chief information officer for the past decade, has been appointed a deputy city manager effective Tuesday, Oct. 13, the city announced Tuesday.

Pledger has been serving in the role on an interim basis. A city organizational chart dated Aug. 27 lists her as interim deputy city manager for planning, operations and innovation.

She will oversee planning, technology, community engagement, race and social equity, finance, tourism and innovation, according to the announcement. On the chart, that covers the departments of Planning and Zoning, Finance and Information Technology Services; the offices of Communications and Community Engagement, Analytics, Innovation and Data, and Race and Social Equity; and the city's relationship with Visit Alexandria.
