ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Alexandria City School Board on Thursday named Jharrett Bryantt, superintendent of the Anchorage School District in Alaska, as the next superintendent of Alexandria City Public Schools.

Bryantt will start Feb. 1, 2027, under a contract that runs through June 30, 2030, and pays $310,000 a year, the division said. He joined Thursday’s board meeting virtually.

“Throughout the interview process, I have been struck by how deeply this community cares about its public schools and by the pride Alexandria takes in its diversity, its staff, and its young people,” Bryantt said in a statement. “I look forward to listening and learning, building strong relationships across the community and working alongside the School Board and ACPS team.”
