Alexandria's independent policing auditor resigns; council approves 5 months of severance

City Council gave no reason for Ameratu Kamara's departure and did not name an interim auditor.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria City Council on Friday accepted the resignation of Independent Policing Auditor Ameratu Kamara and approved five months of severance pay, voting 6-0 in a special session that lasted about two minutes.

Kamara's resignation takes effect Saturday, Oct. 3. No reason was given, and the council did not name an interim auditor.

Mayor Alyia Gaskins announced the resignation and thanked Kamara for her service.
