ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The city is proposing red light cameras, pedestrian islands, new crosswalks and a new traffic signal at seven West End intersections with some of the highest crash counts in Alexandria, and is asking residents to weigh in by Nov. 6.

The intersections are on King Street, Seminary Road and South Van Dorn Street. Together they had 167 crashes from 2020 through 2024, including one that killed a pedestrian, according to a city presentation.

The toll has continued. In 2025, two more pedestrians were killed near King Street and Dawes Avenue, and severe crashes occurred at King Street and Park Center Drive and at South Van Dorn and South Pickett streets, the presentation says.
