Daily Briefing: Thursday, Oct. 22

State study finds merging DASH would save little; police still haven’t named a license plate reader reviewer; Aguirre warms to express lanes plan.

Alexandria, Va. news and information you won’t find anywhere else.

Good morning, Alexandria.

The state’s consultants put a number on merging DASH with three other bus systems last night, and it wasn’t the one lawmakers were hoping for: anywhere from 1% cheaper to 9% more expensive. Tonight the School Board takes up its legislative wish list, which quietly dropped last year’s positions on immigration status and gun storage, and a proposal to cut the standard diploma’s social studies requirement.

Phil Vassar is at the Birchmere tonight, acoustic, three years after a heart attack and a stroke. “I feel very blessed to be alive,” he told me last month; here’s that conversation. Police are still looking for Margaret Womack, 74, last seen yesterday morning on Seminary Road.
