Daily Briefing: Wednesday, Oct. 21

School Board committee picks four-year terms and nothing else; city to review DASH’s numbers before the cut vote; Virginia tries again on Wilson Bridge express lanes

Alexandria, Va. news and information you won’t find anywhere else.

Good morning, Alexandria.

Tonight at 6 p.m. in Arlington, the state will present what it found after studying folding DASH into one regional bus system with Arlington, Fairfax County, and Fairfax City. It’s the city's last scheduled chance to weigh in before the report goes to legislators in December, and Mayor Gaskins has said the study skips the question Alexandria cares about most: what happens to service in individual neighborhoods. The public can view it live, and comments close Friday.

Also today: the School Board election committee settled on four-year terms, and nothing else; the city will check DASH’s $5.9 million shortfall before the vote on bus cuts; and Virginia is back at the regional board this afternoon asking to revive express lanes across the Wilson Bridge. Here’s what you need to know for Wednesday, Oct. 21.
