Del Ray's biennial House & Garden Tour is back on Saturday, May 9, and the Del Ray Citizens Association is already urging residents not to wait.
Early bird tickets are on sale now at $49.87 — a $5 savings over the standard price — through April 30 via the DRCA website and Eventbrite. Standard tickets go on sale May 1 at $55.20. Day-of sales will only be available if space permits, and organizers say they anticipate another sellout after the 2024 tour sold out.
The self-guided walking tour runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Ticket holders can pick up their entrance passes and a map of participating homes beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Pat Miller Square at the Del Ray Farmers Market, 203 E. Oxford Ave. Between eight and 12 homes are expected to participate, with specific properties kept secret until the day of the tour. This year's lineup is expected to include a year-round native plant garden, among other stops.
The tour is DRCA's largest fundraiser and has been held every other year on Mother's Day weekend since 1999. This year's proceeds will benefit the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, the Caboose plaza restoration project near Mount Vernon Community School, and after-school tutoring at Mount Vernon Community School. Past proceeds have supported the Duncan Library, the Nancy Dunning Memorial Garden, the Del Ray Gateway Project, the Mount Vernon Community School playground and neighborhood parks.
The Del Ray Farmers Market and Del Ray Vintage & Flea Market will both be running the same morning, making for a full Del Ray Saturday.
Volunteers are still needed to serve as docents at participating homes. Docents receive a ticket to tour during their off-shift hours. Interested residents can email hgtour@delraycitizens.org.
