Dok Khao Thai began its soft opening Monday, March 16, at 2514 Richmond Highway, part of the Oakville Triangle development in Alexandria.
The company
Dok Khao Thai is a concept of The Pattana Restaurant Group, a Virginia-based hospitality company with locations across the DMV under several brands — including Sense of Thai, Tiki Thai, Bird's Eye Thai, and Thai at. Dok Khao Thai locations operate in Woodbridge, VA; Chevy Chase, MD; and Columbia, MD. A West Falls Church location is listed as coming in 2026.
The Alexandria location is led by co-founders Parasak Chokesatean, who serves as CEO, and Porntipa Pattanamekar, the group's executive chef.
The space and menu
The single-level restaurant features a dining room and a full-service bar. The menu draws from Thai street food — made-to-order dishes using locally sourced noodles, house-grown herbs, and specialty Asian vegetables. Signature items include Crispy Duck Basil, batter-fried duck in spicy basil sauce with bell peppers; Volcano Seafood, a mix of shrimp, scallops, New Zealand mussels, and squid topped with crabmeat in a spicy-tangy sauce; Lychee Duck Curry, roasted duck in coconut red curry with lychee and pineapple; and Lamb Massaman Curry, braised lamb with potatoes, peanuts, and coconut milk served over curry fried rice. A dessert counter offers bubble teas, milk teas, and sweets.
The restaurant describes its mission plainly: "We offer you a chance to experience the sense of Thai food which, until now, could only be found in the endless and sleepless streets of Thailand."
Hours and parking
During the soft opening, the restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Hours may shift as operations ramp up; the restaurant recommends calling ahead at 703-721-3496 or checking its website before visiting. Validated parking is available in the self-park garage at 2575 Oakville Street — up to 90 minutes on weekdays before 4:00 PM, two hours after 4:00 PM, and two hours on weekends. Bus stops are available nearby.
