ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi said Tuesday she opposes NextEra Energy's proposed $67 billion acquisition of Dominion Energy and urged state regulators to reject it.

Hashmi announced her position in a report on a five-city listening tour her office held in September on energy costs and the proposed deal.

"After listening to Virginians from different backgrounds across the Commonwealth and closely reviewing this proposal, I have concluded that it does not provide the protections Virginians demand and should not be approved," Hashmi said in a news release.
