ALEXANDRIA, Va. - King Arthur Baking Company is hiring a baking school manager for its upcoming Alexandria location, offering the clearest look yet at what the company is building at 617 King Street ahead of a fall opening.
The position, which pays between $60,400 and $81,600 annually, calls for someone to oversee all aspects of the baking school — hiring and supervising instructors, developing and teaching curriculum, managing day-to-day operations and helping lead the new location through its opening.
The listing confirms the Alexandria location will have a dedicated team of instructors, assistant instructors, and coordinators, and that the baking school will run hands-on classes across a full curriculum. The manager will also work with a general manager specifically assigned to Alexandria — suggesting a staffing structure larger than a typical retail store.
The Alexandria store will be King Arthur's only location outside Vermont to combine a retail store, baking school, and event space under one roof. The company's flagship in Norwich, Vermont, has a café and bakery that Alexandria will not replicate. A baking school in Skagit Valley, Washington, operates without a retail component. A pop-up in Denver runs through the end of 2026.
King Arthur has said it expects to announce at least one more permanent out-of-state location in the months ahead, with Alexandria serving as the model. The company's director told Vermont Public earlier this year that the goal of the expansion isn't higher sales — it's baking.
The 5,285-square-foot space at 615-617 King Street was previously occupied by a Walgreens. King Arthur's Fairfax Corner pop-up, which opened in September 2024 and extended its stay twice, closed June 26, 2026 — with the company describing it as a learning opportunity that informed what's coming to Alexandria.
