ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Northern Virginia business leaders have grown more pessimistic about the national economy and less optimistic about their own companies, according to a quarterly survey released Tuesday by the Northern Virginia Chamber and the communications firm Pinkston.

Forty-seven percent of respondents said they are pessimistic about the national economy, up from 38% in the second quarter. Thirty-four percent said they are optimistic.

The figure has swung this year. It was 56% in the first-quarter survey, according to Pinkston.
