Two major retailers have closed on Richmond Highway, while a new Indian restaurant is set to open on Eisenhower Avenue this weekend.

Amazon Fresh at Potomac Yard to close — The Amazon Fresh store at 3801 Richmond Highway will close Feb. 1 after less than two years in business as part of a nationwide decision to shutter all Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores. The company said it will instead invest in expanding Whole Foods Market. (Alexandria Brief)
CVS on Richmond Highway closes — The CVS store and pharmacy at 2601 Richmond Highway has permanently closed as part of the company’s ongoing nationwide restructuring. Prescriptions have been transferred to 415 E. Monroe Ave. CVS said it has 18 remaining pharmacy locations in Alexandria. (Alexandria Brief)
Crooked Beat Records closing Del Ray location — Crooked Beat Records will close its Del Ray location at 2417 Mt. Vernon Ave. on Friday, less than two weeks after flooding damaged hundreds of vinyl records at the basement-level shop. Owner Bill Daly said the store plans to announce a new location soon. Bombay Canteen opening on Eisenhower — The Bombay Canteen, a new Indian restaurant from D.C. restaurateur Asad Sheikh and chef Nishi Barua, will hold a soft opening Sunday at 2010 Eisenhower Ave. with a grand opening Feb. 8. The menu features Bombay street food including vada pav, pav bhaji, chaats and biryanis. (Patch)
Alexandria Restaurant Week extended — Alexandria Restaurant Week has been extended through Feb. 8 following this week’s winter storm. Nearly 80 restaurants are offering prix-fixe dinners priced at $35, $45 or $55 per person across Old Town, Del Ray, Carlyle and other neighborhoods. (Alexandria Brief)
Visit Alexandria previews what’s new in 2026 — Visit Alexandria released its annual roundup highlighting America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, new public art installations, dozens of new and upcoming restaurants and hotel upgrades. Burke & Herbert acquisition details emerge — New SEC filings show Pennsylvania-based Linkbancorp reached out to 12 other banks before agreeing to be acquired by Alexandria’s Burke & Herbert Financial Services Corp. for $345.2 million. The deal, announced in December, will create an $11 billion-asset bank spanning six states and is expected to close in the second quarter. (Washington Business Journal)
NextStep Technology relocates headquarters — NextStep Technology, a professional services firm focused on digital transformation for federal agencies, has relocated its headquarters to 6350 Walker Lane. The address carries an Alexandria mailing address but is located in Fairfax County. (CityBiz)
