Republican Party names Gerry Chandler as nominee for April 21 Alexandria City Council special election
Chandler will face Democrat Sandy Marks and independent Frank Fannon in a three-way race
The Alexandria Republican City Committee has named Gerry Chandler as its nominee for the April 21 City Council special election, setting up at least a three-way race against Democrat Sandy Marks and independent Frank Fannon.
ARCC Chairman Chris Howell announced Chandler's nomination Monday in a post on the committee's website, canceling a canvas that had been scheduled for February 25 at Minnie Howard. The cancellation signals Chandler was the consensus choice, and no contested selection process was needed.
The ARCC did not provide any information or background on who Chandler is, his Alexandria ties, professional background, or prior political activity.
Fannon, a former Republican member of the city council who is running as an independent, and Marks, who won last Saturday's Democratic firehouse primary, are also in the race.
The filing deadline for all candidates is 5 p.m. Friday, February 27.
