Samuel Madden Homes redevelopment tops out in Old Town, 11 months after groundbreaking

The $120 million project will bring 207 affordable apartments to North Henry Street. Completion is planned for 2027.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The six-story building replacing the Samuel Madden Homes in Old Town has reached its full height, a milestone developer Fairstead and its partners marked Wednesday with a topping-out ceremony.

The $120 million project at 999 N. Henry St. will have 207 apartments reserved for families earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income. Completion is planned for 2027.

Mayor Alyia Gaskins and Roy Priest, interim CEO of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, attended the event, according to Fairstead. Robert Barnard, the company’s senior director of development, gave remarks, and guests toured the roof.
