The change affects staff schedules at schools following the traditional calendar, but does not change scheduled instructional or non-school days for students.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Alexandria City School Board on Oct. 8 moved a professional learning day for staff from Tuesday, Nov. 3, to Monday, Nov. 2, according to an Alexandria City Public Schools newsletter.

The change to the 2026-27 calendars affects staff schedules but does not change any school days for students, the newsletter said.

Students on the traditional calendar will still have both days off. Under the calendar the board approved, Dec. 18, 2025, Nov. 2 was a teacher work day and Nov. 3 was "Election Day / Professional Learning Day." The newsletter, which links to a revised calendar, does not say what happens to the teacher work day.
