ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A stretch of Mt. Vernon Avenue in the Del Ray area will close most of the day Saturday for scheduled crane work, the city announced Thursday.

The road will be closed between W. Reed Avenue and Russell Road from 3 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. Traffic will be detoured to Russell Road and W. Glebe Road. The sidewalk on the west side of Mt. Vernon Avenue will also be closed during construction.

The release did not specify what the crane work is for. Housing Alexandria is constructing Sansé and Naja, a 474-unit affordable-housing development with ground-floor commercial space, near the intersection of W. Glebe Road and Mt. Vernon Avenue, adjacent to the closure area.

If the work is not finished by 8 p.m. Saturday, the road will remain closed overnight, and crews will resume from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 31.
