Washington Spirit head coach Adrián González has been named the National Women's Soccer League Coach of the Month for April, the league announced Monday. It is the first time González has earned the honor in his career.
González, in his first full season leading the Spirit, guided the club to a 3-0-0 record in April. Washington outscored opponents 7-0 over the month and set a new club record with four consecutive clean sheets, according to the team.
A 2025 NWSL Coach of the Year finalist, González has carried that form into May. The Spirit opened a five-match road stretch with a 4-2 win in Orlando on Saturday. Including his time as interim head coach in early 2024, González has compiled a 23-8-12 record across all competitions with the club.
The NWSL Coach of the Month is selected by the NWSL Media Association, a group of writers and on-air broadcast talent who cover the league. The April award was based on regular-season performances.
Washington's next home match is Saturday, May 30, against Seattle Reign FC at Audi Field. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in what will be the Spirit's final contest before the league-wide June break. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
