ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Spooky Mad Science Expo, a free Halloween-themed science event for children and families, returns to Patrick Henry Recreation Center for its 11th year Saturday, Oct. 17.
The expo runs from 3 to 7 p.m. at 4653 Taney Ave. The rain date is Oct. 24. It is open to all ages, and costumes are encouraged.
Organizers say the event will offer more than 100 hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, arts and math, including drones, robotics, chemistry, space, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and coding. A planetarium and a Teen Science Café are also planned.
The city has proclaimed Oct. 17 "Spooky Mad Science Expo Day," and Mayor Alyia Gaskins is scheduled to read the proclamation at 4 p.m., according to Chrysalis Development Group, which organizes the event. A costume contest is scheduled for 6 p.m.
