Stardust Vintage & Gift, the kitsch-filled Del Ray boutique that opened to fanfare last June, will close for good on June 30, owner Amy Eggers announced Saturday.
The shop at 1904 Mt. Vernon Ave. opened June 14, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting attended by Mayor Alyia Gaskins, state Sen. Adam Ebbin and leaders of the Del Ray Business Association. Just over a year later, Eggers said in an Instagram post that the demands of running the store had become incompatible with her priorities after a breast cancer diagnosis.
"After surviving breast cancer, I pay attention to balance in a whole new way," she wrote, adding that family was calling and that she could not continue doing it all.
Eggers described the past year as magical, calling the storefront a tiny universe of kitsch, color, connection and joy and saying she had loved meeting the customers who became friends along the way.
The store occupies a space with a vintage lineage of its own, having taken over the location previously held by La Brocante, which relocated next door to 1906 Mt. Vernon Ave. when Stardust opened. At the grand opening, Del Ray Business Association President Lauren Fisher described stepping into the shop as stepping into Eggers' imagination, and Mayor Gaskins praised the intention behind every paint color and product on the shelves.
Eggers, whose family has lived in the area for generations, also founded the Del Ray Vintage Market, the outdoor pop-up that Fisher credited last year with drawing thousands of visitors to the avenue. That market will continue beyond Stardust's closure, Eggers said, with the next flea scheduled for May 9.
The remaining weeks at the brick-and-mortar shop will be devoted to a liquidation sale, and Eggers encouraged customers to stop in before the doors close.
