ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Taste of Old Town North returns to Montgomery Park on Thursday, Sept. 17, opening a weekend of neighborhood events that continues with a chalk art festival and a guided pub crawl two days later.
The Taste is free and family- and pet-friendly, with tastings from Old Town North restaurants including Jula's on the Potomac and Hank's Oyster Bar, interactive art activities and live music from The MOD, a D.C. band whose set mixes jazz, funk, Americana, folk, downtempo, breakbeats and soul.
"The Taste of Old Town North has become a beloved community tradition showcasing our city's outstanding local businesses while also creating a welcoming and inclusive experience for everyone who lives, works, or visits the area," Mayor Alyia Gaskins said.
The event is hosted by the Old Town North Community Partnership. "It also demonstrates the Partnership's mission of supporting a diverse, walkable community for those who live, work, own small businesses, or visit Old Town North and surrounding neighborhoods," said Margaret Townsend, owner of River's Edge Yoga and the partnership's president.
Sponsor HRP Group used the announcement to signal movement on the former Potomac River Generating Station site. Amelia Chassé Alcivar, the company's executive vice president of corporate affairs, said HRP looks forward to sharing updates on the site's transformation "as we prepare to break ground in 2027."
The weekend continues Saturday, Sept. 19, with Chalk-a-Block from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring local chalk artists, competitions and live music, hosted by the Old Town North Alliance. The same day, NOTICe runs its second annual Canal Pub Crawl, a guided walk past historic sites near the canal with stops at neighborhood bars and restaurants; participants buy a passport in advance.
On-street parking is available in Old Town North, with public parking at 625 N. Washington St. More information on the Taste is at oldtownnorth.org.
